This Privacy Policy explains how the TV Remote: Universal Controller app handles your information. The App is developed and published by Md. Tariqul Islam (“we”, “us”).
In short: TV Remote: Universal Controller does not collect, transmit, or sell any personal data. It has no user accounts, no analytics, no advertising, and no third-party tracking. Everything the App stores stays on your device.
1. Information we do not collect
We do not collect or receive any personal information about you. Specifically, the App does not:
- require you to create an account or sign in;
- collect your name, email address, phone number, or location;
- contain analytics, advertising, crash-reporting, or tracking SDKs;
- send any of your data to us or to any third-party server we operate. We do not operate any backend server for this App.
2. Information stored on your device
To function as a remote control, the App saves certain data locally on your device only (in the app’s private storage). This data never leaves your device except to communicate with the TVs or devices you choose to control on your own local network. It includes:
- the list of devices you add, including their names, network (IP) addresses, models, and MAC addresses;
- pairing credentials required to control those devices — such as authentication tokens, pre-shared keys, PINs, and locally generated client certificates;
- your in-app preferences and settings.
Pairing credentials are treated as sensitive: they are stored in the App’s private area and are excluded from Android cloud backup and device-to-device transfer, so they are not uploaded off your device.
3. Local network communication
The App communicates directly with the televisions, streaming players, and similar devices on your local Wi-Fi/network (for example Android TV, Samsung, LG, Roku, Sony, Panasonic, Philips, and Vizio devices), and with infrared (IR)-controllable devices via your phone’s IR blaster, where available. It discovers devices using standard local-network protocols (such as mDNS and SSDP) and sends control commands to them. These communications happen only on your network and are not routed through us.
4. Permissions and why they are used
| Permission | Why the App uses it |
|---|---|
| Internet / Network state / Wi-Fi state | To connect to and control devices on your local network and detect network availability. |
| Change Wi-Fi multicast state | To discover compatible devices on your network via multicast (mDNS/SSDP). |
| Transmit IR | To send infrared remote-control signals through your device’s IR blaster (if it has one). |
| Vibrate | To provide haptic feedback when you press buttons. |
5. Data sharing
We do not share, sell, rent, or disclose your information to third parties, because we do not collect it.
6. Data retention and deletion
Data stored locally by the App remains on your device until you delete it. You can remove it at any time by deleting saved devices within the App, using your system settings to “Clear storage / Clear data” for the App, or by uninstalling the App.
7. Children’s privacy
The App is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect any personal information from anyone, including children.
8. Security
Because your data stays on your device, its security depends primarily on your device’s own protections (screen lock, encryption, and keeping your operating system up to date). Connections to consumer TVs on your local network may use self-signed certificates; the App restricts relaxed certificate handling to local/private network addresses only.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Effective date” above and post the updated version at this URL.
